Lights Out: The Radical Right, the Tea Party, and the 21st Century Dark Age*

Emperor Theodosius made Christianity the sole and official religion of the Roman State in A.D. 395. The Church assumed complete control over individual minds and humanity entered the 1000-year period called the Dark Ages. In fact, the first 400 of those years are considered Europe's Barren Age, with few advances in literature, science, and education. Thankfully, the structure began to crack during the 16th Century and has lost most of the stranglehold, though gradually, ever since.

If the Radical Right religious factions and their corporate supporters in the U.S. are allowed to establish not only their conservative but malicious agenda, we could see a return to a kind of dark age. All one has to do is look at the radical Islamist regimes throughout the world who still hold complete control of their various nations to know that we must not let that happen in America.

Theocracy is the death knell of a free society.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
- The Bill of Rights
