A Zen Parable...
An older student approached his mentor and said, "I've been to see many teachers and I've given up many pleasures. I've fasted, lived a celibate life, and stayed awake nights seeking enlightenment. I've given up everything I was asked to, and I've suffered, but I've not been enlightened. What should I do? The mentor replied, "Give up suffering." From Zen Without Masters by C. Benares 1985
