Are Texans Really Opposed to Critical Thinking? They Say 'Yes'....

Big news among the nation's brainiacs these days. Texas seems to have declared war on the process of critical thinking. But why? What's in it for them? Why would they show themselves up as total airheads to the entire world? Well, Laura Clawson of the Daily Kos tells us why. Here's an excerpt. Turns out, if you're a kid in Texas, it's not a good idea to be thinking for yourself. You may become your own person. And your state government, with its ruling GOP political party, can't have that. Good luck in the real world, wonderful kids of Texas. You're gonna need it!


Daily Kos, Friday, June 29, 2012: Texas Republicans are saying that their 2012 platform's opposition to "critical thinking skills" was a mistake—but that mistake is now the formal policy of the Republican Party of Texas until 2014. The stated reasoning behind opposition to critical skills was that such education programs "focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student's fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority."
