Is Atheism a Religion? A Skeptic's View...

Norman Geisler said, "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist." Indeed.

After having read such amazing and enthusiastic treatises against religion and for atheism by such literary luminaries as Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and Christopher Hitchens, I have come to the conclusion that, like Mr. Geisler, I do not have enough faith to be as certain as these authors are about their convictions. They say they base their ideas on 'facts.' OK, fine, but a fact is simply where we have decided to suspend research...for the moment. Those 'facts' may and will soon change again. Best to keep an open mind. A fundamentalist is a fundamentalist.

Paul Tillich wrote, "When anything is placed on a pedestal beyond criticism, it becomes an idol. Those who thus seek to screen an idol from criticism only betray their own suspicions about the worthiness of the totem they worship."

Let both religionists and anti-religionists heed Mr. Tillich's words.
